CEO & Co-Founder of SIRPLUS
Raphael Fellmer is an entrepreneur, climate activist, author, and co-founder of the Berlin-based impact startup SIRPLUS with the vision of Zero Waste For Zero Hunger. After establishing 7 SIRPLUS supermarkets, generating over 20 million euros in revenue, and facing a failed financing round, the food rescuer saved SIRPLUS from insolvency and successfully restructured the business model to be economically sustainable. Through SIRPLUS’ online shop, surplus food and other products from producers are given a second chance and sold at significantly discounted prices. Together with 150,000 customers, the Berlin-based startup has already saved 5 million kilograms of food and enabled over 500,000 school meals in Africa. Raphael’s vision is to create a world where everyone has enough to eat. With SIRPLUS, he is bringing food rescue into the mainstream and promoting greater appreciation for food in society, business, and politics. In 2009, he began as a dumpster diver and lived for 5 years on a “money strike” to raise awareness of food waste and solutions for how everyone can live more sustainably and reduce their ecological footprint. His career as a food rescuer began in 2009 as a dumpster diver. He then embarked on a journey without money from The Hague across Europe, Africa, the Atlantic to Brazil, and up to Texas to raise awareness of the consumer society. After returning, Raphael initiated foodsharing, the largest European volunteer movement with over 400,000 users, which has already saved over 180 million kilograms of food in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. Through over 1000 media appearances, including Markus Lanz and SternTV, he became the face of food rescue in the German-speaking world. The Berlin-based father of two is the author of “Happy Without Money!”, a keynote speaker, and known for his commitment and media presence for Zero Waste for Zero Hunger.
